Welcome! We’re so glad you’re here to meet our team.

Janet Thomson - Inspire Family Acupuncture

Hi! I’m Janet. I’m a Columbia University trained neuroscientist with an advanced degree in Chinese medicine. I pursued a career in acupuncture and herbal medicine because I wanted to work within a system that understands mind, body, and spirit to be interconnected, a system in which all symptoms, emotional states, and life circumstances are trusted and treated simultaneously.

I earned my masters degree in traditional Chinese medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco. During my training I provided over 500 hours of clinical care, including providing treatments at the ACTCM Auricular Acupuncture Clinic and the CIIS Center for Somatic Psychotherapy. I have continued my training in women’s health with Dr. Robert Johns and in pediatrics with Raven Lang. From 2017-2020 I studied weekly under Bob Levine focused on Chinese and Tibetan pulse diagnosis.

I have a passion for spending time with children and I’m incredibly lucky to have a thriving daughter and outstanding husband to share life with. In our free time we enjoy everything outdoors (gardening, hiking, beach time), dance parties in the living room, cooking, and reading.

Navarre Miya comes from a background in home birth midwifery, natural/ancestral parenting, herbalism, and traditional food ways/nutritional studies. This informs and supports her offerings as an acupuncturist and practitioner of East Asian Medicine. Trauma-informed care, inclusivity, trust, and respect form the foundation of what she offers to all patients and she values the collaborative nature of her role as she holds space for each patient’s journey toward better health.

Navarre especially loves to treat, educate, and empower children and their families on their healing journeys using Shonishin, or traditional Japanese pediatric acutherapies. Treating birthing families and elders brings her particular joy as well as times of transition offer specific opportunities for healing and growth.

Other things that bring Navarre joy include and delight are gardening and spending time with plant medicine, adventuring around the Bay Area with her homeschooled children, and contemplative practices in nature.
