Herbal FAQs

Can I take herbal medicine if I’m on prescription medication?

Generally yes, although we will need to discuss all your prescription medications. If you are on many prescriptions we will also want to work in coordination with your prescribing physicians.

Can my child take herbal medicines?

Yes. Many herbal medicines work very effectively and safely for young children and can be a great alternative to repeated antibiotic and/or steroid use.

Can I get herbal medicine without getting an acupuncture treatment?

Yes! Select “herbal consultation” under the Book Now section of the website.

Chinese herbal medicine is unusually safe when properly prescribed, as these formulas have been designed to remove side effects. Each formula consists of typically four to fifteen or more herbs — there will be several main herbs that have the strong effect (for example, antiviral), and then additional herbs to counteract any potential side effects (such as being difficult to digest). This means that the herbal medicines are well-rounded and unlikely to cause side effects, increasing their effectiveness and their safety for use by all ages.
